Well guys, it’s not really a conversation that ever comes up, but did you know that good penile health (translation: a healthy penis) can be a sign of good health in general? Yes, in fact it’s true! When your penis is healthy…there’s a good chance that the rest of your body is healthy as well. So what then constitutes as good penile health? Well, I think in this case, it’s easier to describe what isn’t.
Two major signs of an unhealthy penis are the obvious ones: sores and/or painful urination – which could be symptoms for STDs. However, STDs can often go unnoticed because symptoms can be nonexistent, or even seem like the flu, but all the while they can be doing internal and irreversible damage. That is why it is so important to have a yearly STD checkup if you are not in a monogamous sexual relationship.
Outside of STDs, one of the first symptoms of heart disease can actually be Erectile Dysfunction. When plaque builds up in the arteries it limits blood flow, and it’s blood flow that maintains your erection. Also, an enlarged prostate can cause symptoms such as a weak stream, frequent urge to urinate, and/or difficulty starting urination. So as you can see, getting annual blood work and checking for STDs will help identify any of these symptoms and help guide you towards great penile and overall health.
