Information
What is Trichomoniasis? What are the most common symptoms?
The majority of infected people do not have any signs or symptoms.
How long does it take to develop symptoms?
Symptoms of Trichomoniasis usually appear one to four weeks after exposure to an infected person, though for some, symptoms may never occur. If symptoms are present they can come and go or may occur much later for some individuals.
How do people get Trichomoniasis?
A person can contract Trichomoniasis from an infected person during sex. The most common part of the body to become infected for women is in their lower genital tract, for men is inside their penis. It is not common for the parasite to infect other body parts such as hands, mouth or anus.
Testing
What is a Trichomoniasis Test?
A Trichomoniasis Test will require a urine sample. Since symptoms of Trichomoniasis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are very similar, we recommend that you purchase the Chlamydia and Gonorrhea test panel and the Trichomoniasis Test.
Do you offer a Home Test for Trichomoniasis?
Currently we do not offer a Home Test option for Trichomoniasis.
Is testing accurate?
Our contracted laboratory uses the same type of STD tests that you would receive at many doctor’s offices and hospitals. However, there is always a remote chance of a false positive or a false negative result.
A false positive result means the test shows the infection to be present when the person does not have the infection.
A false negative result means the test shows no sign of infection when the person does have an infection.
Trichomoniasis can be easily cured with antibiotics if caught early.
